On January 12, 2026, the Joint Secretariat of the World Digital Education Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the Alliance) was officially established in Beijing. The secretariat was jointly established by the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) and Beijing Normal University (BNU).

Youqun Ren, Vice Minister of the MOE, attended the inauguration ceremony and delivered a speech. Limin Liu, President of the CEAIE and representative of the Alliance’s founding parties, along with Jihong Yu, President of BNU and Chair of the Alliance, jointly witnessed the launch of the Joint Secretariat. They also presented appointment letters to members of the Alliance’s Expert Advisory Committee. Dan Yang, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange at the MOE, and Jin Zhang, Deputy Director General of the same department, were also present at the ceremony. Representatives from international organizations such as UNESCO, educational institutions, Chinese and foreign universities, and enterprises attended the event. Professor Zongkai Yang, Director of the NERCEL and the NERC-EBD, was invited to serve as Director of the Expert Advisory Committee of the Alliance.

Immediately after the inauguration, the Expert Advisory Committee held its first meeting. Zongkai Yang, Director of the Expert Advisory Committee on Education Digitalization of the Ministry of Education; Qian Tang, former Assistant Director-General for Education at UNESCO; Asha S. Kanwar, former President of the Commonwealth of Learning; and other digital education experts from various countries gathered to conduct in-depth discussions on the Alliance’s development path and core work plan. Their deliberations provided strategic guidance for the Alliance to focus on key priorities and advance practical cooperation.

The Alliance, established in January 2024, has already drawn 115 member organizations from 43 countries and regions worldwide.
